Today in Music Tech....

For this week's topic on Music technology, I wish to venture into the realm of recording, and pose questions to be investigated. What makes a "good recording engineer" a good recording engineer? Are there hierarchies to microphones that we should use when recording ourselves? And does this change with instrumentation? As recorded music becomes more and more ubiquitous, I feel that it is time for me personally, and largely the music community as a whole to take more initiative in understanding exactly what goes into the recording process. Especially if we are recording on a regular basis for competitions, auditions and such.
